What should I do if I think that I am being overpaid?
All overpayments of tax credits are legally recoverable no matter how they were caused; so make sure you take steps to correct your award. However, in some cases you may be able to ask The Government department that calculates and collects taxes. See full definition not to recover the money.
You should:
- Check whether your award is correct. You can use the Turn2us Benefits Calculator to get an estimate of your tax credits entitlement.
- Get advice from a benefits adviser. You can use our Find an Adviser tool to find a local one.
- Telephone the Tax Credit Helpline to report any mistakes in your award.
