Motability
If you receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component, you can use it to lease an adapted car, scooter or wheelchair through the Motability scheme.
Getting your Motability car

Losing your Motability car when your Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claim is decided
If you do not qualify for the PIP enhanced rate mobility component, for example, when your award is reviewed or renewed, or you transfer from Disability Living Allowance (DLA), you may have to return your Motability vehicle.

Vehicle Tax exemption
If you are getting the enhanced rate of the mobility component, you can be exempt from Vehicle Tax. The exemption has to be for a vehicle that is used by or for you.

Blue Badge
You could get a Blue Badge to help you with parking if:

In England, you have been awarded:
-
at least eight points for the moving around activity in the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) test, OR
-
ten points for the going out activity in the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) test because you are unable to undertake any journey because of overwhelming psychological distress

If you struggle with journeys but did not get awarded points as 'unable to undertake any journeys', you may still be able to get a Blue Badge.

In Scotland or Wales you have been awarded 12 points or more for the planning and following journeys activity in the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) test or 8 points or more for the moving around activity in the PIP test.

In Northern Ireland, you have been awarded 8 points or more for the moving around activity in the PIP test.

Disabled person’s bus pass
You could get free bus travel in your local area.

England: Different councils have different schemes. Contact your council to find out the eligibility conditions for a bus pass

Wales: If you get

8+ points for the Communicating Verbally activity in the PIP test or;

12+ points for the Planning and Following Journeys activity in the PIP test or;

8+ points for the Moving Around activity in the PIP test.

Northern Ireland
