Sara Willcocks, Head of Communications at Turn2us, says:
“In the Queens Speech we have just heard the Government’s plans for issues such as Brexit, transport and crime.
“What is astounding is that, while 14 million people struggle in poverty, the Government has not addressed this crisis as an immediate priority.
“People across the country, who are struggling to get by, will be wondering why they have once again been forgotten.
“As a sector, we hear directly from people that their actual priorities are paying their housing costs, feeding their families and keeping up with the costs of living.
“To do this, the government needs to turn its attention to scrapping the five week wait for Universal Credit, ending the benefits freeze and raising Local Housing Allowance rates.”
