Commenting on the news that the BBC will scrap blanket free TV licences for people aged 75 and over, Alison Taylor, Director of Operations at Turn2us said:

“We recognise that the decision made by the BBC to means test the license fee for people over the age of 75  from 2020 is incredibly difficult. We are encouraged to hear that the license fee will still remain free for those who are receiving Pension Credit. However we know that thousands of low income pensioners don’t claim pension credit and may miss out.

“We work with thousands of older people every year who are struggling financially and who are not aware they could be receiving Pension Credit, along with their state pension. If you, or someone you know, is struggling financially we would recommend visiting the Turn2us website or  Freephone Turn2us Helpline on 0808 802 2000 to do a Benefits Check.”
