Families under pressure need a lot of help

Following today’s budget, poverty charity Turn2us says that more needs to be done to help people under pressure, but says the changes to Universal Credit, the minimum wage and personal allowance, will have an impact.
Simon Hopkins, Chief Executive of Turn2us, said:
“While we welcome what the Chancellor described as ‘a little help for families under pressure’, particularly the changes to Universal Credit and the minimum wage and personal allowance, what struggling households need is a lot of help. There is a perfect storm that includes stagnant wages, insecure work, inflation and uneven government support, that is leaving many unable to cope.
“Those we help are repeatedly telling us that they need more support, more clarity and greater consistency. We need both greater substantive help as well as urgent improvements in the roll out of Universal Credit. We look forward to the Secretary of State’s further announcements tomorrow.”
