Almost £1.3 billion of Carer’s Allowance unclaimed

National poverty charity Turn2us is raising awareness that carers across the country may be missing out on Carer’s Allowance.
Almost 400,000 carers could be missing out on the benefit, which is worth up to £3,359.20 a year – totalling nearly £1.3 billion.
Caring for someone is a huge responsibility and research shows that carers are disproportionately socially and economically vulnerable.
David Samson, Welfare Benefit Projects Manager at Turn2us, said:
“Many carers may have completely given up their working and personal lives to care for friends and family. Carers Rights Day is a crucial time to highlight the scale of people missing out.
“Carer’s Allowance is there to be claimed. We implore anyone who cares for over 35 hours a week to do a benefit check to see what their entitlements are.”
