New 16-17 Saver Railcard to be launched
A new 16-17 Saver Railcard is to be launched on Tuesday 20 August for young people in England and Wales aged 16-17 years.
Estimated to benefit 1.2 million teenagers, the railcard costs £30 and gives 50% off standard Anytime, Off-Peak, Advance and Season tickets (excluding travel on ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper services).
It is valid for one year or until the holder's 18th birthday, whichever comes first.
How do I get a 16-17 Saver?
The new 16-17 Saver will be on sale from 9.00 am on Tuesday 20 August. Holders will be able to download the saver to their phone with the Railcard app or keep it in their wallet/purse.
Discounted tickets using the 16-17 Saver will be available to buy from Monday 2 September.
You can buy it online on the 16-17 Saver website
You can also buy it over the phone by calling 0345 301 1656 (7.00 am to 10.00 pm every day except Christmas Day). Calls cost no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02) and may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes. You’ll also need to submit your photo via email.
What documents do I need?
You'll need to have the following when you apply:
- Evidence of age - a valid UK driving licence, passport or national ID card
- A good quality digital passport-style photo of you
- Debit or credit card for payment.
If you don't have any of the above forms of identity (ID), you can upload a scan of your birth certificate or a Government-approved PASS card instead. Applications using these forms of ID will take a little longer to process
