Karen's Story

Karen, a mother of three, had her life turned upside down when she was forced to move her young family away from the area she lived for 22 years following her marriage breakdown.

On a low income, Karen had very little money to spare and her income dropped significantly following a car accident that meant she could no longer work. When her fridge freezer broke down, Karen had no way to replace it. Her family was now living without the means to store fresh food or eat healthy prepared meals.

“I had  to sell my mother’s jewellery to be able to afford my original fridge when I first moved in," Karen explained. "My caseworker from Turn2us asked me if there’s anything else I needed. I didn’t think I’d have enough for a fridge. But before I knew it, he was telling me I’d been awarded some extra money to buy a fridge freezer.”
