Why Turn2us and Royal London are working together

Financial insecurity can be exacerbated by events such as redundancy, sudden illness or losing a loved one. Research shows that one in three UK adults (17.6 million people) say they wouldn’t be able to manage without their income, or cope financially in the event of a life shock.

Furthermore, Royal London’s cost of living research has shown that one in seven are close to or in financial crisis.

Our flagship strategic partnership with Royal London enhances our existing impact through awareness raising, campaigning, sharing insight and expertise, and providing vital funding.

The partnership has had three overarching goals.

  1. To extend the reach and impact of the financial support offered to those facing financial insecurity.
  2. To use our mutual voice and insight to advocate for better outcomes for people experiencing financial insecurity.
  3. To improve both organisations via shared expertise for continuous development.

Together, we want to help build a society where everyone has the tools, support, and resilience they need in the face of financial hardship.

"In the time I’ve worked in this sector, I don’t believe I have come across a charity and private sector partnership that feels more natural and powerful. With our combined commitment to making sure people can survive the implications of a life-changing event, we are well placed to bring about meaningful change."

Some of our work

Supporting the Turn2us Helpline

The Turn2us Helpline supports people experiencing financial insecurity by assisting them to use the Turn2us digital tools, like Turn2us Benefits Calculator. Thanks to Royal London’s support, we are able to continue offering support to people struggling financially who might find it difficult to get online.

Now in the fourth year of our partnership, Royal London has donated and fundraised over £1.2 million for Turn2us, predominantly supporting the Helpline. As a result, we have reached over 200,000 people, ensuring they had access to vital help and information in the face of financial insecurity.

Campaigning for financial security

Together we launched a Pensions Credit campaign in partnership with Royal London.  The aim of the campaign was to increase Pension Credit awareness and take-up among those most in need, as those of pension age are a key group affected by the cost of living.

Around 2.5 million people aged over 66 are entitled to Pension Credit to top up their retirement income, but an estimated £1.7 billion goes unclaimed each year according to the DWP.

The campaign saw a huge spike in the usage of our services, with 134,643 more completed calculations on our Benefits Calculator from people specifically of pension age within just the first three weeks.

Overall, the campaign had a total potential reach of 61 million people, giving more people the confidence to claim Pension Credit and the information to know how.

Fundraising

Royal London colleagues have played a huge part in the partnership so far, helping to raise awareness of Turn2us and participating in fundraising events to raise vital funds. Colleagues have taken part in events from the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge and Skyline Marathon to the London Marathon and the Great North Run.
